“Uh-oh.” Falman tried not to laugh. ”Now, Eli, be a gentleman. A proper gentleman does not douse his mother in bathwater.” He relieved Emy of the boy so she could change her shirt. ”Not that I object to the view, but it’s not fair. Look… see? The water’s fun.” He scooped some up in his hand and dribbled it over his son’s legs.
Emy laughed after the shock of suddenly being covered in water. “Oh, Eli. What are we gonna do with you?” She smiled, but still was happy to give him to his father. She just took her shirt off, since she figured a new one would get wet all over again. Eli didn’t flail anymore, but he still seemed very cautious.
“He seems to have my careful streak,” Falman noted with amusement. ”There, son, it’s not that bad, is it?” The water on his legs didn’t seem to be scaring Elijah too much, so Falman took a risk and put him in the tub properly. He was still very small, so his father had to support him, but at least he was in the water and the water was still in the vessel.
“There, is that okay, sweetie?” Emy good gently to her son and came back over to smooth her hand over his hair. The tiny baby had nervously shoved his fingers in his mouth, but he seemed like he was getting used to it. “Ahahaha, he really is taking after you! I wonder if he’ll get your memory, too?”
“I’m not sure whether I would wish that on him or not,” Falman admitted. ”It certainly has been of great use in my career, but there have been times when I wished I could forget some things I’d read or seen. The eidetic memory is usually a blessing and yet sometimes a curse.” He continued to carefully wash his son’s delicate skin.

“I’m not that bad,” Falman protested mildly. ”And most of the pictures are of you holding Elijah, to be fair. There’s still some room on the desk, don’t worry.” He carefully disengaged his shirt from his son’s tiny grip. ”Don’t worry, you’re going to like baths. Mommy will make it nice and warm and full of bubbles.”
Emy turned off the water when it got deep enough, double checking to make sure it wasn’t too hot. “I sure will! Come on, baths are fun, honey! You get to be clean and play!” Elijah didn’t look convinced, and whined a little when he lost his grip on his father. He didn’t protest much when his mother took him back, but the second his feet his water for the first time in his short life, he just squealed and flailed, getting water everywhere. Poor Emy ended up soaked.

“Come here, little man.” Falman accepted the slightly wiggly bundle and jiggled him in his arms. ”Were you good for your mother today? Your uncles are already tired of hearing about you, I think. I have to be careful I don’t turn into Brigadier General Hughes.”
Emy turned on the faucet and made sure the water was the perfect temperature before putting the stopper in. “Oh no. Have you run out of space on your desk yet? I should revoke your photo rights.” Emy giggled and looked over at the two men in her life. Elijah was clinging firmly to his father’s shirt, looking like he knew a bath was coming and wasn’t looking forward to it.

“I get to give my son his first bath tonight. I’m so excited!”

“Heehee, I hope you’ll be good for us, Ellie. Don’t splash too much!” Emy cooed, nuzzling the top of her son’s head.
“He’s so tiny.” Falman was so fascinated by the baby. ”I think he has my eyes.”
“… Yeah, I think babies usually open their eyes by now, so he must,” Emy lightly teased, heading over to the bathtub. “Here, you can hold him while I get his bath ready!”

“Picked out any names yet?”
“Yes, sir, his name is Elijah Daniel Falman.”
“Sounds like a good choice.”
“Thank you, sir. We chose Elijah together, and Daniel is after my wife’s late father.”
